Honoré de Balzac (1799–1850) was a prolific French writer. He used a pen name. Balzac was a novelist art critic playwright and journalist. He created one of the most imposing collections of novels in French literature, known as La Comédie humaine (The Human Comedy). This included over ninety novels and novellas. He is considered a major figure of the European Romantic era.
