More on Dependence
“A married man forms married habits and becomes dependent on marriage just as a sailor becomes dependent on the sea.”
“You try to be faithful And sometimes you're cruel. You are mine. Then, you leave. Without you, I can't cope. And when you take the lead, I become your footstep. Your absence leaves a void. Without you, I can't cope. You have disturbed my sleep, You have wrecked my image. You have set me apart. Without you, I can't cope.”
“I am wont to think that men are not so much the keepers of herds as herds are the keepers of men. The former are so much the freer.”
More on Self Reliance

“Your task is to stand straight; not to be held straight.”
“We are such lovers of self-reliance, that we excuse in a man many sins, if he will show us a complete satisfaction in his position, which asks no leave to be, of mine, or any man's good opinion.”
